Later, Post sings: “Don’t call me ‘baby’ when you did me so wrong.” ![]() Teased earlier this week, the synthy team-up begins with Abel Tesfaye addressing a lover who’s been “fuckin’ with my feelings“. It’s the first single from Posty’s upcoming fourth album Post Malone and The Weeknd have shared a collaborative new track, ‘One Right Now’ – listen below. I can not remember the last time I heard a large collection of music that was so beautiful, soothing, captivating and emotional, no matter how often I listen to it.Post Malone and The Weeknd share new collaboration ‘One Right Now’ Time after time i’ve said that final fantasy 10 and Kingdom Hearts 2 were two of my personal favourites for that reason alone, but if I were to have one true favourite soundtrack, it would be 2010’s musical masterpiece Nier. That being said, nostalgia does have a huge influence when people reminisce and talk about their favourite video game soundtracks. I believe many games would not be as successful as they are without the composers that work behind the scenes. From the likes of Mario’s cheerful tunes and The Elder Scrolls evocative compositions, to Hotline Miami’s retro take on upbeat pop/funk. Time after time, I catch myself and others subconsciously humming the melodies to both well known and obscure video game soundtracks. In my opinion, music has and always will be an important factor to many video games success and no, i’m not being biased just because i’m a musician myself. But play the OST to the same people and they’ll suddenly register how great some tracks really were. I know nobody who just played the game, who would have praised its soundtrack, simply because it got lost among everything else. Today music has a minor part in comparison to graphics and even sound effects. ![]() The OST might not hold up to today’s full blown high fidelilty orchestra records, but you HEARD it and it touched your soul. The trial, Frog’s struggles, several story & characters reveals, the depressing post-nuclear future, the mystical lands … each era, each lovation, each event had its own unique track that nailed the emotional roller coaster ride. Nothing but greatness.īut the absolute everlasting height of emotional game music must be Chrono Trigger. Be it Chris Hülsbeck with his forward pushing Super Turrican soundtrack or Square Enix with the orchestra scene in Final Fantasy VI. The best days for game music had oddly been the audio-limited SNES era. But during the game itself – nope, music barely matters there. ![]() Today a game with a soundtrack as Journey’s is standing out. Music used to matter far more in games in the past days imho. The prize this week for the five most thoughtful responses is, fittingly, a download code for OlliOlli on PS Vita. ![]() Sound off below, and please feel free to suggest a few of your favourites. What about you? Do you take much notice of a game’s music? How important is the soundtrack to a game’s success? It’s an unexpected design choice that really adds another layer of cool to what is already a very hip little package. I’ll admit my ears never really took to the punk and hardcore stylings of the old Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games, but OlliOlli’s slick, jazzy beats are a perfect fit for the game’s stylish retro-fabulous visuals, especially when combined with the clanking of wheels on rails, and the crunch of skull on pavement. One thing that’s really stood out for me is its soundtrack. I’m still terrible at it, of course, but I’ve come to terms with my innate uselessness now, which freed me up to enjoy some of the game’s more subtle, sophisticated touches. ORIGINAL POST: So, another week has passed where my gaming time has been hijacked by the wonderful OlliOlli on PS Vita. Congratulations – we’ll be in touch later this week via a PM to your ID on the official forums. Before I head off to iTunes/YouTube, here are the winners of the OlliOlli PS Vita codes: extatix, Ikari_86, MrLonghair, DJOates and MckConor.
